Terma SCANTER 6002 Radar Selected for Hellenic Navy MEKO-Class Frigate Modernization

Terma’s SCANTER 6002 surveillance radar has been selected by the Hellenic Navy and Hellenic Aerospace Industry (HAI) to support the modernization of the Hellenic Navy’s MEKO-class frigates.

HAI will integrate SCANTER 6002 into its Centaur counter-unmanned aircraft system, and the radar will also interface with Thales’ TACTICOS combat management system.

As small, low-signature threats in the air and on the surface become a growing concern in the maritime environment, detection alone is not enough. Crews need reliable, high-quality information delivered in real time through the operational systems they already use to assess potential threats, coordinate the response and maintain situational awareness around the vessel.

“Modern naval operations require crews to understand what is happening around the vessel and respond within increasingly short timeframes,” said Kyriakos Enotiadis, Director, Electronics Plant Directorate, Hellenic Aerospace Industry S.A. “Integrating SCANTER 6002 with Centaur and TACTICOS will provide valuable information for counter-UAS operations while contributing to the frigate’s wider situational awareness.”

SCANTER 6002 is designed to detect and track small, low-signature air and surface targets while simultaneously maintaining surveillance of surface traffic and the lower airspace around a vessel. Its advanced signal processing, high spatial resolution and automatic adaptation to sea and land clutter help provide a clear operational picture in challenging coastal and open-water environments. An AI-based classifier can further support operators in distinguishing drones from other targets.
