June 14, 2022, Lystrup: AENA, the national Spanish airport management company, has awarded Terma and partner SEAIRTECH a contract for replacement of the current SMR in Barcelona El Prat Airport (BCN). The contract also reflects the long-term relationship between AENA, SEAIRTECH and Terma.

Following the replacement, Barcelona El Prat will beside the new generation SMR also benefit from the well-known SCANTER processing, and extraction as the primary non-corporative surveillance sensor integrated into the airport’s ATC System. Terma’s Extraction gives the ability to process the recorded radar video without any loss in the video quality, improved dynamics in the detection, and need no external hardware.

The purpose of the SMR is to maximize safety in airports by allowing Air Traffic Controllers to monitor, advice, and instruct aircraft, vehicles, personnel etc. moving on the ground in an airport. A radar is very suitable for this purpose as it covers a large area and operates independently of light conditions (day/night), visibility conditions such as fog, and possible precipitation during rain and snow.

Besides Barcelona, Terma has SCANTER SMR’s in the other major Spanish airports including Madrid Barajas Tenerife Norte, Palma de Mallorca and Bilbao.

Terma is the World’s leading manufacture of SMR and have since the 1990’s installed over 400 systems.
