SPIMM Mistral Engagement

Self Protection Integrated Mistral Module

Strengthens the operational capabilities of maritime forces

Integrated Naval Self-Defence Module

SPIMM combines MBDA’s experience in advanced missile technologies with Terma’s strengths in C2 integration and sensors, the project aims to deliver a highly capable and adaptable modular defence solution that enhances the protection and survivability of both naval and ground-based assets.

The all-in-one SPIMM module consists of a fully enclosed shelter associated with a SIMBAD-RC4 automated naval turret that is equipped with four ready-to-fire MISTRAL 3 missiles and a 3D radar plus an Electro-Optical surveillance system to detect and track air and surface threats.

Neutralize asymmetric threats such as USVs and FIACs

Easy to operate and maintain, minimum training requirement, optimized for small crews

Light footprint adaptable to all types of surface platforms

operational advantages

  • Neutralize asymmetric threats such as USVs and FIACs
  • Design allows for rapid installation and adaptation to supply and auxilliary vessels, landing helicopter docks, littoral sites or offshore installations requiring a self protection capability existing self-protection capability
  • Easy to operate and maintain, minimum training requirement, optimized for small crews
  • Light footprint adaptable to all types of surface platforms
  • Designed for all weather – 24/7
  • Fast and easy reloading at sea

integrated naval self-defence module

Recent conflicts and operations have demonstrated the overarching importance of an efficient, compact, and robust force protection capability as a prerequisite for all deployments. Vessels at sea and in littoral areas face a range of threats including anti-ship missiles, attacking aircraft and helicopters and aerial drones as well as the growing danger presented by surface drones and FIACs (Fast Inshore Attack Craft).

To defend against these threats, particularly for vessels not equipped with major armament nor a combat management system (CMS) such as supply and auxiliary ships, MBDA and Terma can meet the requirement with SPIMM - the Self-Protection Integrated Missile Module based on the already in-service SIMBAD-RC4 missile launching system.

The system is orchestrated by Terma’s C2 system, C-FLEX, the ideal choice for multi-role naval or coastal platforms that require tactical awareness. Two operators control the system entirely from the protection of the module's shelter. The shelter is also capable of storing eight additional missiles.
