Terma and the Lithuanian Wind Power Association (Lvea) Sign Memorandum of Understanding to Advance Wind Energy while Safeguarding National Security
Terma and the Lithuanian Wind Power Association (Lvea) have signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to explore opportunities for wind energy development in Lithuania while upholding national defense requirements through the use of advanced monitoring and radar technologies.
The agreement reflects a joint commitment to addressing the growing need for renewable energy without compromising critical national security infrastructure, including radar protection zones. By combining Lvea’s industry expertise with Terma’s advanced surveillance and radar solutions, the partnership aims to unlock new possibilities for wind energy in areas currently restricted for defense purposes.
The MoU outlines four primary areas of cooperation: identifying territories subject to wind energy development restrictions that may warrant further assessment; exchanging non-classified information on relevant technologies; jointly preparing a non-binding concept for potential wind energy projects in restricted zones; and supporting competent authorities through expert consultations.
“This agreement marks an important step toward aligning Lithuania’s renewable energy ambitions with its national security needs. Terma has for many years worked with cohabitation of civilian and military infrastructure. Together with our expertise in radar and air surveillance systems, we can contribute to sustainable energy development without compromising defense operations” says Martin Couët, Vice President, Group Global Sale at Terma.
“At the Association, we feel a strong responsibility to contribute to the overall security of the state. The Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) signed today with our partners from Denmark, Terma A/S, will enable us to provide Lithuania’s responsible authorities with a comprehensive and professional assessment of how Lithuania’s potential for wind energy development can be harnessed, thereby strengthening the country’s resilience and security” says Linas Sabaliauskas, Director of Lvea.
The collaboration underscores a broader trend in the defense and energy sectors, where technology is increasingly used to enable coexistence between critical infrastructure and sustainable development goals.
